Municipal budgetary educational institution Astrakhan "Gymnasium №2" is a relatively young school, it was built in 1988 as a secondary school No. 17 in a residential neighborhood of new buildings (the act of state acceptance Commission from 28.09.1988, the city Council decision No. 310-s from 30.09.1988 year). Since the beginning of democratic transformations in the country school had the opportunity to select the educational program and with the 1991-1992 school year moved on to an in-depth study of art – aesthetic cycle. The school became a branch of children's school of arts №2.
According to the results of educational activities in October 1992 the school was given the status of a grammar school with profound studying of subjects artly – an aesthetic cycle. By the order №266 from 2.11.1992, the Department of education of a city administration of Astrakhan gave the school the serial number 2. In 2008 the school was accredited as an institution conducting an in-depth liberal education (order of the Ministry of education of the Astrakhan region dated 17.03.2008 No. 284). This change was preceded by the introduction of a new base (2004) study plan and amendments to the model regulations (2005) on the educational institution.
In 2011, the decree of the mayor of Astrakhan No. 5303 dated 24.06.2011 MOU "Gymnasium №2" was reorganized by accession of MDOU "the Kindergarten of combined type №59". By order of the Committee on education and science of the administration of Astrakhan from 10.10.2011 No. 08-07-515 the school was renamed the municipal educational institution "Gymnasium №2" (the municipal educational institution "Gymnasium No. 2") in municipal budgetary educational institution Astrakhan "Gymnasium №2".
